VIBE TALK - Cheeky Lady (1985)

Minc Music/Sound Rays/EMI, 12XBOW(C)164
Producer: Banzi Khubeka
Engineer: John Galanakis
Recorded at: Double A Studios

You can't judge a book by its cover, but you can by the EVIL synths that drive this unknown disco-funk classic. Vibe Talk was made up of keyboard wizard Vuka (Vukuzenzele) Mbele, John Galanakis and Banzi Khubeka. Liner notes pay thanks to Dr Ray "Fun Fun" Bhele of Durban, Jay of Lamontville and Ingoapele "The Poet" Madingoane of Diepkloof "for their contributions in the development of the ideas portrayed on this record", while "the concept on the record Feel the Heat is dedicated to all the convenors of the Peace and Unity talks" - a sign that the curtain was slowly drawing on nationalist rule.

"I can see in the way that she moves
I can tell by the answers she gives
She's my cheeky lady...
She makes me angry,
sometimes she makes me glad.
Sometimes she's so good,
but sometimes she's so bad!"

B-side 'Feel the Heat' is on a similar tip, with more than a hint of Eddy Grant circa Killer on the Rampage (1982).
