Hola bafowethu! This is AFROSYNTH, the realest African selection...

This month we bring you Congolese maestro KOFFI OLOMIDE, the one and only MONWA, classic bubblegum by ALMOMO, MASEMYS and OKIE and more soulful grooves from the CRACKERS and RHYTHM KINGS.

Last month we checked out jazzman STEVE DYER and bubblegum legends DAN NKOSI, ZIZI KONGO, BANJO and THE COMFORTERS.

TZ JUNIOR - Sugar My Love (1985)

Roy B/Dust/Dephon/Teal, RBM037
Producer: Attie van Wyk (exec: Phil Hollis)
Engineers: Richard Mitchell & Greg Cutler
Recorded at: Battery Studios

True to its name 'Sugar My Love' (and b-side 'Are You Ready For Love') is sweet early bubblegum from the stable of Yvonne Chaka Chaka, similarly fresh and funky as Brenda and the Big Dudes. Catchy but repetitive, each track weighs in at close to seven minutes. Thandi Zulu also had a hit with 'Move Me', produced by Peter Moticoe, also on Dephon.
